Partnership with Parents

The Oxford Nursery attaches great importance to the value of close links between home and nursery. Young children grow through many stages of development, some of which can be problematic. It is extremely important that all adults involved with the child communicate and work together on strategies of helping them come to terms with their continually changing abilities, feelings and emotions.

Behaviour and learning

It has to be agreed that certain behaviour, whilst may be deemed 'cute' or funny at home, is not tolerable in a nursery setting. Biting is a prime example, it is important that all adults show disapproval, which gives a clear indication that this behaviour is not acceptable. Other forms of violence, whilst they may only be the child discovering his/her own ability to gain attention, must be discouraged. Our staff are always willing to discuss any behaviour problems so that we can work in conjunctions with you.

Any major changes in a child's life may result in a temporary change of temperament or mood. It is helpful for staff to be made aware of changes that could affect a child's behaviour.

Social Events

Regular social events allow parents, children and staff to meet when there are no time constraints of having to rush to work or get home. We have events where parents may purchase a variety of goods i.e. the Xmas and Spring Fayres; we celebrate the children's achievements i.e. Nativity Play; social gatherings i.e. Harvest Supper, Guy Fawkes night and Diwali; and Nursery birthday celebrations.

We also run occasional information sessions for parents on subjects such as reading, mathematics and behaviour. These are usually held on a Saturday morning and are free to parents of The Oxford Nursery
